Images for Tuscany, a solo show with George Billis Gallery in New York City.

October 16 - November 17, 2012

Artist Statement : Tuscany

This is a solo show based on two different month-long residencies in Tuscany.  Of the landscapes, cityscapes, and interiors in the show many paintings were completed on site, some we're worked into larger compositions back in the studio in Venice, CA.
Borgo Finocchieto and Monteverdi Tuscany were both inspired locations to work-- set in the province of Siena, they are exquisite retreats in beautiful environs.  The owners generously let artists stay and work.  I attempted to get the flavor of some of architecture and landscape of southern Tuscany.
I'm drawn to Italy for many reasons, most of which have to with the fact that many of my early art experiences happened in Italy-- from seeing great works of art as a young man to studying old techniques of drawing and painting.  The architecture, the landscape and of course the culture endlessly inspire.
